Mind Control is REAL!

by Rosetta Black on 09/20/11

I have a toxic friend, I will call Eva - short for Excessive Food Thoughts.  When Eva calls, she is ready for a good time.  She is dressed up to go to a party and always has lots of idea for fun.  She entices me with dessert items, wrapped in pretty packages. It is impossible to tell her no once I allow her in.

I always forget how badly she treats me.
We start out having such a good time.  We go and buy forbidden foods such as processed snacks, sweets and salty items. Of course this is our little secret that nobody knows (that is until they see us several pounds heavier).  The lucky ones, knew how to purge. (I used to think they were lucky because they get rid of it and I know now how much they suffer too)   But, it makes me sick to puke, literally, so I instead get to wear all that food until the next diet.  I forget that part until after I have eaten all that horrible food.

Then comes the side effects!

I gain weight, I feel bad about myself, I get depressed,  then I  over-eat again, I get on another fad diet, the circle keeps going.

How did this happen again?  Knowing what I know?

It all began a few weeks ago after several consecutive months of serene and peaceful eating from my wonderful 'way of life' food plan that I love and works so well for me. Suddenly, I became bombarded with constant food thoughts!  I was wanting a sweet something so bad.  I kept indulging and searching but nothing could satisfy me.  All of my coaching tools and special techniques were not working for me now.

Mind Control is REAL and I'll tell you how!

It was late at nite, my husband was out of town when I found this dessert channel while lying in bed. I remember saying to myself that I probably shouldn't be watching this, but I didn't care!  I through caution to the wind and indulged.  It was so fun that I baled out of bed to the other room to make sure I get all the future recordings of this triple x-rated dessert channel.

I went on for a few days doing well with my eating though consumed with these unrelenting food thoughts. It was so subtle, but soon I was giving in to more, which turned into something indescribable.   I was inundated with thoughts of sweet things.  It was becoming a food hell.  Nothing could match my sweet imagination.

The Lightbulb Moment!

It wasn't until 2 weeks later when the forgotten recording of that dessert show popped in to the recorded list when it suddenly hit me!  I had previously mentioned this show to a friend as I was still enamored with it.  She said to me so matter of factly, "I had to stop watching that because it made me want that sweet stuff and I never had a desire for it before!"

That was the answer as to why I had been obsessing about the sweets.  I know that what we focus on expands, I know that pictures in our mind can manifest especially with added emotion sent to it.  But, WOW!  I was shocked that just a few visual impressions sneeked into my mind and  I was rendered powerless in an instant.  It had control of me and I didn't even know it!

10 ways to take your power back from that toxic friend.

1.  Don't let her in when she calls.  Treat her as if she is an intruder and remember the damage she causes everytime she comes to visit.
2. What can you focus on instead? Focus on a fun & exciting thought.  Since we can only focus on 1 thought at a time, wouldn't you rather focus on a positive thought instead?
3. Say outloud - I might have it have someday but not today or I may have it tomorrow morning but not right now.  This leaves the option open so that you will not feel deprived.
4. There is always another meal coming!  Make that next meal really yummy and nutritious and something you really, really love.
5. What can I do instead?  I have a list of things I can do instead of eating.  Today I got in may hot tub in the middle of the afternoon for a relaxing 30 minute break.
6. Get a glass of water or something with lemon, sweetener & ice.  Sometimes we want that sweet taste and we are not hungry in our body, but we have that mouth hunger.  I like a glass of plain water with a drop of chocolate splenda or stevia.  It hits the spot.
7. Have a support system.  Online support or someone that you can call.
8. Tapping - If you know how to use EFT-emotional freedom techniques, you can quickly learn how to tap a craving away quickly.  Click here Tapping
9. BREATHE - It is amazing how taking a few really deep breathes will instantly calm.
10. Go to the mirror and say outloud:  HELLO GORGEOUS!  Say this to yourself all throughout the day whenever you pass a mirror.

Eventually you may even start to feel gorgeous if you don't already!

Be sure and leave a comment.  I would love to hear from you!

Be mindful of the MIND CONTROLS out there!

What does it Mean to be a Naturally Thin Eater?

by Rosetta Black on 02/17/11

So what does it mean to be a naturally thin eater?  For me, it means to be able to connect with my body rather than my head for the hunger signals.  It also means feeding my body hunger and not my head hunger. My weight loss coach, Marna Thall, from 'Thin Within" says that she is rarely 'in her head" anymore and in fact she "left her head behind years ago".  What does that mean to have left your head behind years ago? I began asking myself that same question.  I know I can be quite obsessive. Could that mean I am in my head?  When I get into the food even though I am not hungry, I have realized it has to be head hunger. The 'obsessing' comes when I 'beat myself up' or 'give up' rather than let it go.  Watching the scale everyday is another obsession I have noticed that 'keeps me in my head'. While it is easy for me to help others and be the neutral objective party and help them with their reasons for overeating; it is much more difficult for me to figure out what mine are.  I have been gaining weight over these past several months as I have been 'experimenting' on my own body. By gosh, if I can truly be a naturally thin eater without the aid of a food plan (I kept my weight off for over 5 years with a tried & true weighed & measured food plan) But now I wish to be more authentic by becoming naturally thin so I can help the most hopeless of cases (like me). I will then know without a doubt, if it can work for me, it can work for anyone.

Some things I have noticed when I am connected with my body: I don't want to eat hot fudge sundaes every day.  I am noticing my stomach reacts quite normally. It tells me when I have had too much or when I need to refuel. I have had to relearn a lot of things without the tether of a food scale and food plan and food sponsor.  It is like learning to ride a bike for the first time. While it is good to follow whatever works for you, whether it is a food plan or method; I still feel strongly deep inside that it is our birthright to all be naturally thin if we wish and live a life of freedom.

So follow my blog and stay tuned as I lose weight as a naturally thin eater; but this time without a food scale!

Organize Your Office in 1 Swoop

by Rosetta Black on 12/13/10

The following story has a tip that I continue to use today to stay organized:

A very important client was about to show up at my boss's office. With only minutes to clean up the pile on his desk, he had no choice but to get rid of it fast. He quickly swept off the piled-high papers, files and junk off the desk into a large box and stuffed it into a closet. He was amazed when years later he realized that he not once needed anything from that box again! Today I have a stack of boxes, neatly labeled in my storage container with "stuff I don't need." along with the date and possible contents.  Not once have I had to retrieve anything from those boxes again.  But they sure look nice on the outside hiding perfectly the mess on the inside.

One of my favorite coaches,  Ali Brown says there are 3 ways to stay organized.  Either -  Delete It.  Delegate It. or Automate It.

The above story is my way of deleting it quickly.

There is always a quick & painless way to stay organized.

Changing Thoughts the Easier Way

by Rosetta Black on 12/13/10

Have you tried to NOT think of something?  For me it was the food thoughts.  My sister-in-law said to me back in my early days of obsessive dieting, to "don't think about the food and you won't have a problem!"  I have tried and tried to "not think about the food" but the more I try, the more I think about it.

I know we are in control of our thoughts and we get to choose what we think.  I have always thought if I just think of something other than food then it would be easy! Just like that famous country song by Patty Loveless, "I think about Elvis, New Clothes, Oprah in the afternoon... my mind wanders where it may... it always comes back to you,, you're all I think about these days...... " It is easier said than done to change those habitual thoughts I have come to realize.  However, there is a trick I discovered and that is to use action to change my thoughts.

I soon discovered that it is easier to change your thoughts by changing your actions than to change your actions by changing your thoughts.

ACTING AS IF

My action change to change my thoughts might be to "ACT AS IF" I am already that thin person I want to be. Acting as if I accept my body just like it is.  Make myself have fun buying clothes no matter what size they are.  Enjoying my life and living "out loud". I cannot think of the food when I am truly living life and enjoying the moment.

I know that as I change my actions, my thoughts will soon follow!

Blessings,

Win with Food this Holiday Season

by Rosetta Black on 12/01/10

The holiday eating fest is here and you don't want to add on any more pounds this season.  You have tried everything you can to stay on the 'plan'.  Since we operate on 10% will power and  90% subconcious control, it may just be out of our control.

If your will-power has run out and you still want to eat, then by all means eat!

You have my permission but only if you follow these instructions:

1. Eat as if you really mean it and want it.  Eat with Joy!

2. Meditate on the food. Pay attention to every bite. PAY EVEN CLOSER ATTENTION TO THAT LAST SWALLOW BEFORE IT GOES ON IT'S WAY TO YOUR STOMACH. Notice if it is chewed enough before it goes down.

3.  Do not distract while eating. No TV. No Reading. No Working.

You will soon discover that eating in itself is rather boring and has no meaning but only the meaning you have given it with your great imagination. You are imagining that the love, the fun and excitement comes from the food. You cannot eat consciously and be in the dream state at the same time. When you are truly conscious, you will see the truth about the food and know it has not the power to love you, give you comfort, joy or excitement.

Never overeat again unless you want to!
